Jaguar elegance according to Pininfarina
The Jaguar XJ Spider is a concept car presented at the 1978 British Motor Show, conceived as the spiritual heir to the legendary Jaguar E-Type.
Based on the Jaguar XJ-S platform, it retains the 5.3-liter V12 engine, capable of producing 284 hp, paired with an automatic transmission.
For this prototype, Pininfarina created an entirely new bodywork, shorter, wider, and lower than the XJ-S. The more compact and slender proportions give the car a dynamic, elegant, and markedly sporty appearance.
The design combines the classic stylistic elements of the Jaguar brand with contemporary automotive trends, creating a roadster with essential and balanced lines.
The prototype generated considerable interest and encouraged Jaguar to explore the idea of a future "F-Type" sports car. Despite the positive reception, the XJ Spider never progressed beyond the prototype stage.
