A sculpture in motion

The Cisitalia 202 holds a unique place in automotive and design history. It was the first car to enter the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where it was described as a true "sculpture in motion."

It is also one of the rarest automobiles of its era: today, approximately 170 examples are known. The limited production is also linked to the highly artisanal nature of its construction.

Using a technique derived from the tradition of horse-drawn carriages, the body panels were hand-modeled over wooden forms, instead of being made through industrial stamping processes.

Pininfarina's revolutionary design abandoned the decorations and the separation between different parts of the bodywork, typical of automobiles of the time, favoring a continuous, harmonious, and almost monocoque structure.
