The Forever Piuma Leonardo Ink is an elegant writing instrument entirely made of exquisite solid wood (pear or maple), inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's studies on flight. Its dynamic shape evokes the Renaissance master's historical quill pen. Equipped with a ballpoint tip with a Schmidt S635 (D1) cartridge, it rests in balance on a refined mirrored stainless steel base featuring Leonardo's mirrored signature. Available in: Pear, Maple.
Forever Piuma Ink originated from reflections on Leonardo da Vinci's writings dedicated to the study of flight, particularly the Codex on the Flight of Birds preserved at the Royal Library of Turin. The elegant and dynamic shape is a tribute to the historical quill pen used by Leonardo for his pioneering studies. The solid pear or maple wood body offers a warm and natural feel to the touch. The exclusive mirrored stainless steel base enhances the object by elegantly reflecting the master's mirrored signature. A refined handcrafted product, ideal for collectors, professionals, and lovers of Italian design.
What is the difference between the Pear variant and the Maple variant?
The two variants are distinguished by the type of solid wood used. Pear wood has a fine grain and a warm, pinkish/light brown color, with a uniform and elegant texture. Maple wood has a more pronounced grain and a lighter, brighter color, with more visible veins. Both are precious woods crafted by hand. The choice is purely aesthetic and personal.
Is the Schmidt cartridge replaceable? Where can I find it?
Yes. The Piuma Ink uses a Schmidt S635 cartridge (D1 format), a widely used standard that is easily available in specialized stationery stores, pen shops, or online. It is compatible with many other quality ballpoint pens.
How does the base work? Does the stylus really stay in balance?
Yes. The mirrored stainless steel base is designed to hold the stylus at its natural center of gravity, allowing it to rest in horizontal balance. It's a surprising visual effect that makes the Piuma an exhibition piece as well as a writing instrument.
What is the difference compared to the Forever Piuma Ethergraf?
The Piuma Ink (€49) uses a ballpoint tip with a Schmidt cartridge: ink writing, fluid and immediate, suitable for daily use. The Piuma Ethergraf uses the Ethergraf® tip: inkless writing by paper oxidation, more poetic and contemplative. Same Leonardo-inspired design, different writing technology.
Is it suitable as a gift for a fan of Leonardo da Vinci or Italian design?
Absolutely yes. At €49, the Forever Piuma Leonardo Ink is one of the most original and culturally rich gifts in the catalog: solid wood, Schmidt cartridge, steel base with Leonardo's signature, and artisan Italian production. Perfect for collectors, history enthusiasts, design lovers, and Made in Italy fans.
